The Colt

Back in 1835, when Halley's Comet was overhead, same night those men died at the Alamo, they say Samuel Colt made a gun. A special gun. He made it for a hunter. A man like us, only on horseback. Story goes, he made thirteen bullets. This hunter used the gun a half dozen times before he disappeared, the gun along with him... Somehow Daniel got his hands on it. They say... they say this gun can kill anything.
                                                                                – John Winchester, 1.20 Dead Man's Blood

When Dean and Sam finally find their father, John tells them the legend of the colt. The only difference is, is that the legend is not just a legend. Its real. the Colt was made by Samuel Colt, creator of all Colt Pistols. There are certain features of the Colt that is different than other ones not made for hunters. These features include Latin script Non timebo mala translates to "I will fear no evil".

Bullets were made, specifically thirteen. Once Sam and Dean got to it there was only six left. After they were all used Bobby, Sam and Deans, "Uncle" who helps them with all the lore of the creatures, is trying to figure out how to rebuild it. That is when Ruby, a demon who is on a mission to help Sam steps in and fixes it up so that they can make an umlimited supply of bullets.

This gun was also created for another reason other than to just shoot and kill demons and other monsters. Samuel Colt created a train track in Wyoming. This train track, made of iron was created in the shape of a Devil's Gate. Dead center in the middle of the Devil's Gate is a door. This Door is a locked door to Hell. Azazel's wants to open the gate, so he needed one of the psychic children to open it for him because he could not pass over the Devil's Trap. So Jake, the winner of the psychic battle took the Colt and opened the door to hell releasing a swarm of demons onto the world.
